We got an incredible 1,141 votes in the North Shropshire constituency in Thursday’s General Election last week. Given the challenging circumstances, including the lack of time to plan and prepare for a snap election, the vastness of the constituency or the limited resources available to us, to have gained 2% of the vote is a very good start for a fledgling political party which has not previously fielded candidates in an election.
This would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of many people. So an enormous thank you to everyone who contributed in any way, however small! The result demonstrates the potential for the Shropshire Party to make a difference in communities throughout Shropshire in future elections.
This isn’t over. It’s just beginning. We will stand candidates in the next local elections in 2021. To stand as many candidates as possible, we need people to to join the party, to get involved, the show their support, and to consider standing as a candidate in their local ward. It doesn’t matter if you have lots of time, or only a little. If you believe in local communities and you want to stand up for them, to try and make a difference however small, then please think about standing for the Shropshire Party. Because even when we don’t win, every single vote we get sends a message to the politicians in the big parties, that people want local communities which are run in their own interests, and not those of Westminster parties or their major donors.
In future elections in Shropshire, we will stand up as a strong and independent voice for local communities.
